Most of the women coming through the doors of the maternity home enter with the weight of the world on their shoulders. If you were able to talk with them, you would find a common thread running through their stories. They would tell you that they had tried everything and exhausted every known resource, yet they just could not find the key to make life work. For them, living at Redeeming Life means they have a chance to leave their past behind and reach for the key that would finally unlock a better life for both themselves and their babies.
Most of our residents come in to the maternity home program with preconceived notions about what the key might be. For some, they believe that if they could just land the perfect job and make enough money, all their worries would be over. Others envision that the key is a knight-in-shining-armor, riding into their lives on a great white steed, prepared to rescue them and their babies from a life chaos and dysfunction. Some think the key is like the golden ring outside the carousel - no matter how far they stretch, it always remains just beyond their reach.
As we meet them where they are in this moment and counsel them through one-on-one mentoring, we introduce them to Jesus, the One who holds the key to the life they have been longing for.
He “who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What He opens no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open.” Revelation 3:7
To understand how the key works, we must first begin with an understanding of Grace. Grace is the unmerited, undeserved favor of God that reaches out from a loving Savior and touches the heart. We see His Grace poured out on the women as they dare to believe Him to answer prayers whispered just under their breath. Oh, the joy that fills our hearts each time the Lord answers our prayers! As they recount to us how the Lord moved on their behalf in a certain situation, you see a flicker of hope spark in their eyes. It is a hope that says,
“Maybe, just maybe, what they are telling me is true. Maybe He really does love me and my baby.”As the days turn into weeks at the maternity home, the ladies learn to trust the Lord. They learn that He will never leave them or forsake them. Instead, He will walk with them through both the good times and the bad. As they continue on their personal journey with Him, they find that no matter what comes their way, if they hold fast to Him, He can and will turn all things around for their good. As they learn to trust Jesus more and more, the flicker of hope develops into a flame of faith.
By the time the ladies graduate from the maternity home program, our prayer is that they will discover that the real key to life is Jesus! Knowing this, they realize that the great life they once dreamed of is found in their newfound relationship with the Lord. We pray that each resident experiences for herself that the Lord is the One they can always rely on. As they continue their journey with Him, the hope for a new and better life can be found in the reality of Our Lord Jesus.
Redeeming Life is a Christ-centered maternity home that provides a stable environment for single women with unplanned pregnancies. Our structured program provides mentoring, counseling and life skills education to help them become independent and provide for their children as single mothers.
