If you were to talk with any of the young women who reside at the Redeeming Life Maternity Home, you would find that none of them expected to be in a crisis pregnancy. As young adults, most imagined themselves growing up into successful young women who would eventually find their soulmate, fall in love, plan and execute a storybook wedding, and then live happily ever after. If they saw children in their future at all, it would not be until much later down the road. With these dreams dashed to pieces, the vision of their future life had to change to fit their new circumstances. They altered their dreams to include finding a man who would want and accept them, especially with a baby in tow; a man who would swoop them up in his arms and whisk them away from the life of chaos and despair; a man who would love both the woman and her baby unconditionally.
At Redeeming Life Maternity Home, we listen carefully to the women as they share their hopes and dreams for the future. The common thread that runs through each woman’s story is the hope of finding that “someone special” that will fill the gaping hole in her heart - a hole that presents with a longing desire to be loved. It is during this time that we share with them the Love of Christ.
Each of us, male and female, is born with a hole inside of our heart - a burning desire to be loved. As we go through life, we try to fill this hole with a host of different relationships and pleasures only to find that they all fall short. This need to be loved was designed by God in such a way that only a relationship with Jesus could truly fill it.
It is during this time of intimate sharing, that we introduce the concept to our residents of a relationship with Jesus. Many times, it includes our own personal testimony of how we had the same longing and desire for love. Then we share what happened when we allowed Jesus into our hearts – it is like a puzzle piece being set in place, and the hole in our heart is made complete in Him.
What a wondrous time it is to see the realization come across a young woman’s face, when she realizes that the love she has been looking for all along can be found in Christ. It is like a wellspring of living water flowing from her soul that washes away unreal expectations and fills her with hope for a new life.
In Proverbs 13:12, the Bible says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.”
With a revelation of the Lord’s love filling her heart, the young woman moves ahead into the new life He has prepared for her and her child. Destined never to be alone again, she is ready to meet whatever challenges may come her way with her Lord and Savior by her side.
Redeeming Life is a Christ-centered maternity home that provides a stable environment for single women with unplanned pregnancies. Our structured program provides mentoring, counseling and life skills education to help them become independent and provide for their children as single mothers.
